Record di presenze con ben 2324 partenti per la tappa del Towerrunning Circuit 2014 che ha fatto scalo nella suggestiva cornice del Swissôtel a Singapore. Un pieno di consensi per il patron del circuito Sebastian Wurster che ora già pensa alla prossima cronoscalata in Cina. Nella gara odierna, una delle tappe storiche a livello mondiale con ben ventisette edizioni all'attivo, da affrontare vi erano 73 piani, 226 metri per un totale di 1336 gradini.
Il più veloce di tutti, come da pronostico è stato l'australiano Mark Bourne che ha eguagliato il record gara del tedesco Thomas Dold. Una sorta di passaggio ideale di consegne tra il più forte scalatore di grattacieli di ieri e il numero uno di oggi. Per Bourne, imbattuto da oltre due anni, un finish time di 6'46" che gli ha permesso di tenere dietro il forestale Emanuele Manzi.
Di nuovo a Singapore dopo due anni d'assenza, il lariano ambassador La Sportiva ha confermato il suo ottimo momento di forma chiudendo in 7'28". Sul podio con loro anche il ceco Miroslav Burian che ha terminato la propria ascesa in 7'33".
Pronostici della vigilia confermati anche nella gara in rosa con l'austrialana da tempo residente a Singapore Suzanne Walsham, capace di stravincere in 8'02", 4 secondi sopra il suo tempo 2013. A medaglia anche la belga Vanja Cnops - 9'24" -. Terza si è invece piazzata la ceca Lenka Svabikova che ha fermato il cronometro sul tempo di 9'26".

The annual signature sporting event, Swissôtel Vertical Marathon, held at the 226-metre tall Swissôtel The Stamford, showcased world-class competition at its peak this morning. A record-breaking 2,324 participants from countries around the world, including international elite runners Mark Bourne, Darren Wilson and Suzanne Walsham from Australia, Emanuele Manzi from Italy, Vanja Cnops from Belgium and Lenka Svabikova from Czech Republic, as well as local inspirational runners Mohd Shariff Abdullah, Alvina Neo and Ezzy Wang who overcame their physical disabilities, blazed up one of the tallest hotels in Southeast Asia across 15 race categories.
Mark Bourne from Australia took home his second Swissôtel Vertical Marathon winning title with a record timing of 6 minutes 46 seconds. Not only does he break his own record from the 2013 Swissôtel Vertical Marathon, his timing this year now puts him on par with the current world record set by Germany’s Thomas Dold in 2009. It is the fastest timing set in the 27-year history of the Swissôtel Vertical Marathon. Emanuele Manzi from Italy comes in just after Mark Bourne, with a timing of 7 minutes 28 seconds. Miroslav Burian from Czech Republic came in just seconds after Emanuele with a 3rd position of 7 minutes 33 seconds. Suresh Tilija came in 4th with a timing of 7 minutes 40 seconds while Gorge Heimann from Germany came in 5th with a timing of 7 minutes 55 seconds.
9th-time winner of the Swissôtel Vertical Marathon Women’s Open Category, Suzanne Walsham, clinched her 9th medal with her uncontested timing of 8 minutes 2 seconds, just about 4 seconds shy of her results achieved in 2013. Vanja Cnops from Belgium meanwhile took the 2nd spot in the Women’s Open Category once again with a timing of 9 minutes 24 seconds while Czech Republic’s Lenka Svabikova comes in very closely at 9 minutes 26 seconds.
